The Full Profile

George Washington Carver, Agricultural Scientist & Educator, advanced soil restoration, crop diversification, agricultural education, and practical science for farmers. George Washington Carver became a leading agricultural scientist and educator at Tuskegee Institute. He promoted crop rotation and alternatives to cotton to improve depleted Southern soils, while developing practical bulletins for farmers. His public reputation helped make scientific education more accessible to Black communities and rural growers. His crop-rotation science and plain-language bulletins were designed to free Southern Black farmers from the cotton-debt cycle; he patented almost nothing, calling his discoveries gifts to be given away.
